I was born and raised in the cloudy, overcast city of Seattle, Washington. My current life adventure brought me to the East Coast with my husband and our two cats Bilbo and Bambi. I like to think both of my fur babies are part of the Turistaa Studios team.
I live for piping hot cups of chai to warm me up while I'm editing. I love working with florals and creating arrangements for my home. If I never got into wedding photography the universe would have pulled me towards being a florist at some point. In my spare time I love watching foreign films and rewatching Harry Potter every chance I get.
The love of preparing and enjoying meals is something my husband and I love to do for one another. You'll often find us going on frequent food excursions to New York City, Trader Joes and our kitchen.
I’m so grateful for every moment my clients trust to share with me to tell their story. When it comes to my brides, I always strive to serve them in some capacity, not just to be there to take their pictures. Whether it is sharing a tip on how to steam a veil in the shower (trust me!) or getting a stubborn stain out of your dress, I'm your girl.
The reason I named my business Turistaa Studios is due to a psychological itch I have of never staying in one place for too long. You probably would say that makes no sense since I haven't seen much of the world and have lived in Seattle most of my life, but it’s true! I love exploring new places much like a tourist.
I easily find myself fascinated with the languages and cultures of the foreign shows and films I like to watch. There are so many beautiful ways to say the same thing. The word tourist for example, sounds so mundane in contrast to the colorful adventures they would likely be embarking on. I felt that the Spanish equivalent turista, encapsulates this beauty.
As a photographer, I feel so privileged to be able to create and capture milestone moments in people's lives. Knowing that they will be looking back at my work for years to come is such a humbling feeling. I'm grateful for every client who took a chance with me and trusted me to capture their most treasured memories. Light is my most prized piece of equipment. I love to tell stories; I use light and love to narrate them.
Turistaa Studios began when I was a young activist documenting a protest movement. Fresh out of high school, I was fortunate enough to afford my first camera. Initially, I documented protests for Palestinian liberation. Right away, I was drawn to taking portraits of individual activists. Their expressions were filled with intense emotion, I couldn't help but capture their passion and empathy. That is when I realized I wanted to document the raw emotions that come with every occasion.
Growing up, I didn't have an affinity for sports or art (at least the kind that requires paint or clay). Instead, I would seek adventure in books and expand my creativity within the stories of my favorite authors.
On the first day of my sophomore year in high school, I dropped my digital photography class for the chance to join the school newspaper. However, I found myself constantly thinking about all the photos I could be taking instead. Although I was always able to paint a picture with my writing, it just never left me feeling satisfied or fulfilled.
I was left without a creative outlet until I realized the art I would create could be captured through a lens. Not too long after my high school graduation, I was finally a proud owner of my very own camera.
The first experience with my camera was at a protest where I had the opportunity to capture the intense emotion and excited passion of all the present demonstrators. Little did I know, then, that my activism and community organizing would lead me to my current passion for portrait and wedding photography.
I was blessed with the opportunity to shoot my first wedding in 2015 at a local mosque. I had spent the weekend capturing all the emotions of the genuine love and happiness surrounding the celebration and I felt like part of my client's family. I continued to pursue the honor of sharing such a special occasion with my clients and their families. Seven years later, I am so thankful and honored to serve my clients on their wedding day.
